Hooked is a fishing journal app for kids 8 to 14, currently in open beta. We've designed it to be as private as possible. Below is exactly how data flows.
What we collect
Nothing on our servers. Your catches, photos, videos, badges, and certificates are stored ONLY on your device (in browser local storage and IndexedDB).
We have:
- No user accounts
- No logins or passwords
- No tracking pixels or analytics
- No cookies (beyond what the browser uses to remember the app is installed)
- No advertising
What gets sent off-device
Four things, and only when YOU trigger them:
- AI photo identification — when you tap "Identify Fish," your photo is sent directly from your device to Anthropic (the AI provider) using YOUR Claude API key. We never see it. Subject to Anthropic's privacy policy.
- AI Coach (Captain Splash) — chat messages go directly from your device to Anthropic via your Claude API key.
- Weather data — catch coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo (a free weather API) to fetch weather and moon phase. They do not retain location data.
- Beta feedback — when YOU tap "Send via Telegram" or "Send via Email," your feedback message + device info is sent to us at [email protected].
What you control
- All your fishing data lives on your device. You can delete it anytime in Settings → Reset everything.
- Sharing a catch (trading card, video clip) only happens when YOU tap Share.
- Photos and videos NEVER leave the device unless YOU share them.
- Certificates are generated on-device and saved locally.
Information for parents

Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date. The most current version always lives at this URL.
